The Past
And even sometimes, he would go away too
And even sometimes, he would go away too
Pipitkit was born among a handful of other kits, and instantly he and his sister stood out. Born to two Nightwalker parents, they had expected for Nightwalker kits to come out, as dark as the desert is after sunset. For them to have a Cursed child, along with a kit that would eventually become a Daywalker with a white spot on his chest, meant Pipitkit's parents had serious sins to account for. Pipitkit instantly knew his sister was different the day he realized she did not have a name, his mother refusing to give her one. He did not realize how different he was until he realized how many other kits in the nursery, and even their mothers, would give him scornful looks for his pale coat and white spot. The day Pipitkit's sister was taken away was one of the most bitter days of Pipitkit's life, and it's a day he still remembers clearly. For several moons after that, Pipitkit's only playmates was his family. Few others dared interact with him. His mother and father doted on him, perhaps trying to make up for the Clan's attitude towards him, but it was enough for Pipitkit to recede and become a shy and quiet kit.
Then the day came for the litter to move out of the nursery. Pipitkit became Pipitpaw, and with this change of name, came the change of schedule. Suddenly, Pipitpaw was awake at completely different times from his family. As a result, he rarely saw them. Due to him only playing with his family as a kit, he did not get the chance to befriend many light-colored cats. Now, Pipitpaw became more serious than ever, too afraid to interact with his Daywalker clanmates. He quickly began to receive more looks of disappointment and disgust for his white spot, and it even increased to the cats his age teasing him ruthlessly. It's not uncommon for Pipitpaw to let his fur get dirty, in desperate attempts to make the white spot disappear. In addition to the white spot, Pipitpaw was teased even more for the fact that he was a Daywalker while his family were Nightwalkers, and they never let him forget about his Cursed sister. Not that Pipitpaw could've ever forgotten, even without the constant reminders.
More moons passed by, and Pipitpaw still remained friendless. He evolved into a rather awkward, anxious, and private cat; the opposite of how an exemplary Daywalker should act. By 8 moons, Pipitpaw learned to tune out the coarse way his Daywalker peers treated him. While his family remained kind and warm to him on the rare occasion that they saw each other, Pipitpaw couldn't help but lose the intimate bond that he had once shared with them. He even began to develop a grudge against his mother and father, never forgetting how they refused to raise Pipitpaw's sister. While Pipitpaw no longer remembers much about her, and doesn't even know her name, he dreams that he could someday reunite with her.
But dreaming - praying, even - doesn't get you anywhere. Pipitpaw had to learn that the hard way.
