Acaciapaw plodded through the dying greenery of the oasis towards the glittering silver of the water in the very middle. It was a hidden gem, the eye set in the face of the desert. And it shone and danced under the unwavering light of the sun. Nice to know that someone's happy in this heat. Everyone was drying up, it was long past time to move to their other camp. She was a little excited to see the sunshine camp. A new flavor to her life. But she was worried... would Tumblepaw make it? Would some of the other cursed who were still recovering be able to make the journey? She wished she could drag them across the desert like she heard some of the older cursed describing, but she knew she wouldn't be strong enough. She'd at least be able to support Tumblepaw, and hunt for them. Maybe she could get some herbs along the journey... The muted calico stepped out into the hot sun, blinking. She had stuck to the shade, leaping in between the patches in some strange kind of dance. It was second nature to avoid the sun. She had made sure to go around to the side of the oasis that was furthest from the main part of camp. Hopefully she wouldn't run into anyone. The water was low enough that she had to step down past the red rocks of the bank and onto the bed. She sniffed at some of the puddles, but deeming them mostly dust she ventured further. You weren't supposed to touch the water, especially if you were cursed. But oh, she dreamed that the water would feel nice and cool on her paws. She knew better than that though. It would be lukewarm at best. Distracted by lapping at the murky water, she didn't hear the pawsteps of another cat approaching. Tags: jinxy Notes: yeeet |

Firepaw was exhausted. She had worked her ass off and now she was hot and tired. She slumped onto the sand, groaning loudly. She'd never been so uncomfortable in her life! She needed to cool off, or at least just get a drink! She continued to walk, pale green eyes scanning the desert for an oasis or any signs of water. There! An Oasis a bit away, and near camp too! Firepaw ran as fast as she could to it, squinting at the bright sun, even as a Daychaser sometimes the sun was annoying. She made it, but quickly noticed another cats presence. She squinted, trying to make out who it was, it looked like it was the size of an apprentice, maybe one of her friends. Then she got closer and realized with a jolt this cat was a cursed! Firepaw didn't know how to feel. Scared? Angry? Disgusted? Her parents had tought her that they where evil, horrible cats. But she didn't look very menacing, or evil. In fact she was more curious than anything else. "Hey! Can I get a drink?" She meowed loudly, catching the other molly's attention. Tags: Owl,

Acaciapaw had only just started to drink her fill when she heard a cat’s voice. She didn’t even need to look up to know that this wasn’t a cursed cat. She could identify all of them by voice. This was a ‘walker. And judging by the higher pitched tone, a trainee. She swallowed, attempting to wet her dry tongue. “Ah! Yes, I’m so sorry miss, I’m in your way, I’ll move.” She meowed quickly, apologizing. The cat stepped out of the way of the water, then averted her gaze and flattened her ears. She had this submission act hammered into her head. Don’t make eye contact. Don’t speak to them unless you’re apologizing or they ask you a question. She could see the cat’s spotless red fur out of the corners of her eyes but she knew better than to let curiosity take ahold of her. This was what Acaciapaw should have looked like. Or well, if the other molly had been in shades of grey instead of brighter-than-the-sand orange. ”I didn’t mean to keep you from water, I didn’t know anyone would be coming around this side, or else I would have waited.” She added meekly, just in case the cat needed more apologizing to tolerate her. She had found that some cats liked it when she groveled, while others found it annoying and wanted her to shut up and go away. It was a fifty-fifty chance, but she’d rather go over the top than not do enough. You weren’t supposed to leave until they dismissed you, and she couldn’t just turn and walk away until this trainee said so. She really was sorry that she was blocking the cat’s way, and she didn’t think they were just doing this to be mean. Everyone needs water. I realize this, but does she? Sometimes cats would single her out just because they wanted someone to yell at. Usually she didn’t mind. The knight that took care of her said that sometimes cats just needed to blow off some steam when they were having a bad day, and they didn’t mean what they said. He said to feel bad for them. She just hoped they felt better after taking it out on her. Bracing for impact, Acaciapaw waited for the tabby to reply. She was expecting the worst. The ones my age are always the worst.Tags: jinxy Notes: just a note: this is the main oasis that's in camp xD there are very few oases in the desert especially this time of year during the hot season, any ones you may be lucky enough to stumble upon would probably be dried up |

Firepaw gave her a cheeky smile. "Don't worry about it!- You can still get a drink if you want, I don't bite" she winked at the cursed molly, but a voice in her head screamed. 'what the hell am I doing, I was told all my life that these where bad cats, that if I associate myself with them i'd be in so much trouble, they where sinners! Bad cats!' but...she didn't look bad. She looked scared, and broken down. Her father was wrong about many things, maybe...he was wrong about some of the cursed. ”I didn’t mean to keep you from water, I didn’t know anyone would be coming around this side, or else I would have waited.” Firepaw snorted, her tail waving back and fourth as she finished her drink of water, letting it fall from her chin and gave the molly another grin. "Dude- I told you where all good! Don't even worry about it!" she meowed. "Oh! Whats your name? My name is Firepaw" she meowed, moving so the molly could drink again. "Of course tell me when your done drinking cuz all i'll hear is GURGLEGURLE" she meowed. Tags: Owl,

Acaciapaw was confused by how… chummy the walker trainee was acting. It was like she was talking to a denmate instead of a cursed cat. Did she not see the white on her coat? Was she dangerous enough not to care? Or was this just some ploy, be “friendly” to her and then rip it away. This could be a test. She would not fail. “You are too kind miss, I’ll wait for you to drink your fill. I wouldn't want to keep you from relieving your thirst.” She mewed, still looking away. She hoped her voice wasn't as shaky as she thought she heard. Her head was starting to throb from distress and her throat was still as scratchy as a cat’s tongue. She was doing her best to not sound as nervous as she really was, nor as thirsty. She had been thirsty since this morning, since she slept in late after hunting into the night. She usually awoke before dawn so she could get a drink before the daywalkers awoke and the nightwalkers returned. But today she hadn’t been so lucky. The red cat’s tail lashed as she drank, but she wasn’t sure whether it was because she was agitated or just because she wanted to move. She drank greedily, and when her head rose Acaciapaw trained her eyes back on her paws again. She saw droplets from the cat’s chin hit the hot rocks and disappear. Wasteful… every drop must be savored. She thought bitterly. Even when she was as thirsty as she was now, and sometimes even thirster, she always drank slowly and let the relief dribble down her throat at a tame pace. When water was such a novelty, one had to make it last. She’d heard of cats becoming sick before if they gulped down too much water at a time. I’ve never been sick like that before. I have gotten sick when I ate prey too fast after having so little, though. I wouldn’t say I prefer thirst to hunger, though. Fear latched onto her heart when she processed what the cat said. It had taken a few moments, the sun was evaporating her brain function just as much as it was sucking up the oasis. My name? Telling your name was a dangerous thing. The cursed held their names close, they were personal and shared with trust. But because the cursed all trusted one another, they all knew one another’s names. For ‘walkers it seemed you didn’t need to earn a name. They were given freely, tongues could taste them without really knowing you. ”Blossom-uh. Blossompaw.” The lie left a sour taste in her mouth. But she’d rather lie than betray her name. She had always liked the name Blossom. Flowers bloomed from deep roots, like she hoped she would some day. She was still growing her roots, though. But she liked Acacia more. It was poetic, and trees were even more grand than flowers. Tall and unshakable, with roots deeper than the stars were high. She didn’t need to be pretty like a flower, she’d take the sturdiness of the tree any day. This so-called Firepaw’s eyes burned into her fur like, well, fire. Hotter than the rays of sunlight cast from above. She had never seen fire herself but she had heard of it. I certainly wouldn't want it on me. Hotter than the sun! Tentatively, slowly, she unraveled her tense self ever so slightly and bent down to drink. She was too worried about the trainee watching over her to find relief in the water. She didn’t want to appear too selfish, so she pulled away after counting to five. Licking her lips, catching any strap drops of water before they fell. She had always been afraid of drinking or eating around others, but her thirst challenged that fear and won. ”Thank you for letting me drink, miss.” Her eyes stayed trained on the ground as she waited for the cat to say something else. Something sat guiltily in the pit of her stomach, and she wasn't sure whether it was the water or the lie. Tags: jinxy Notes:<3 |
