Faceclaim: Kisuke.
Full Appearance Description: Ferretface is a mishmash of quite a few rather strange and mismatched traits. She is large (by ChasmClan standards) and bulky in size and shape, yet her legs are shorter than the average cat's, occasionally making her look rather comical. The longness of her torso and neck only accentuate this, so she appears even more odd looking. Her long, fluffy coat helps to soften the strangeness of her body and is easily one of her best physical traits. It is very soft to the touch, yet gets tangled often due to its length. Her fur is thicker on her ruff and her tail. Part of which earns her the suffix -face is the dark seal point markings around her eyes. White on her muzzle that streaks up in a blaze through her forehead splits the mask in half and only makes the browns on each side appear darker. She has a pair of uncommonly dark blue eyes with rounded wideness and dilated pupils that give her a look of misplaced innocence. Aside from her markings and eyes, she has a rather long face with a strong looking muzzle, as well as a large nose. Her ears are ever so slightly smaller than the average cat's, and very dark in color due to her point markings. White splashed on her undersides rids her of pointed legs, so her face and tail are the darkest parts of her. The very tip of her tail is white.

The Past
my sister, she told me to do something good
Ferretkit was born to a pair of loving parents with a sister named Sleetkit and a pair of brothers, named Mushroomkit and Nightkit respectfully. The four siblings all got along very well, flourishing under their family's love and care. One of the proud parents was a guard, while the other was a hunter. They were a pair born of love for one another instead of purely for well bred offspring. It was the way ChasmClan was meant to be. The kittens all had varying sizes, shapes, and coat colors and would not look like an obvious family to many. Though they certainly acted like it. Mushroomkit, being the youngest, was born rather sickly and small and his siblings soon outgrew him. Sometimes in their kithood blindness they would play too hard or leave him out, though they never meant anything by it. They failed to notice that their brother was any different from them, and loved him all the same. That was, until Mushroomkit's health suddenly started to decline.
His health dropped so suddenly and so severely that nobody knew what to do or how to heal him. He died peacefully in his sleep, or at least that was what the kittens were told. He had felt no pain, and he was with his ancestors now, spirit immortalized by the gemstones. With this loss, Ferretkit took an interest in mediating. Though she had been very high energy before, her brother's death seemed to instill her with the self control to sit still. She would learn how to do it for him, so they could talk again. She gained the strength and patience to wait and work for something that was worth it. She also learned the importance of living while you could, realizing that every day might be your last and making the most of your time. So when she died, she wouldn't regret it. She learned that young, too young sone cats would say. Ferretkit was sad that her brother couldn't be saved, but she didn't blame anyone. It had happened so fast...
But her mother's death didn't happen fast. She had always been frailer than her clanmates, despite hiding it well. Her kittens were long since apprentices and training to be the three separate roles in their clan. Sleetpaw was a guard, Nightpaw was a hunter, and Ferretpaw was starting a new path in the family as a tunneler. Despite not training together, the siblings remained very close. Ferretpaw sometimes felt left out as she was being trained by family friends instead of her flesh and blood, but began to see that family was really who you chose. ChasmClan didn't lay it out like that, so she was glad she liked her blood family so much. Still, she would pick and make sure her chosen family was made up of cats who supported her and loved her like her birth one. Why waste time being around cats who didn't make you happy? Their parents tried to hide their mother's declining health from the children for as long as they could, but when she was unable to continue teaching during a meditation session questions arose that they had to answer.
Ferretpaw couldn't believe how broken it made her feel. She loved her mother so, so much. She hadn't felt this way about her brother, she still loved him but his death had felt... less earth shattering. Their mother couldn't die? She had always seen her parents as these untouchable beings, always kind and strong and glowing with life... she had never imagined a world without them. Her mother's slow descent into illness meant that she could be treated, unlike her son. The family prayed vehemently that she would be healed, and none more passionately than Ferretpaw, but nothing that Firegem tried ever worked. The litter was friends with the leader's offspring, as they were around the same age. Spottedpaw and Goldenpaw, brother and sister. Both were learning about healing too, but lacked the experience and problem solving ability of their father. Firegem was the only one who would be able to figure this out. As the days went on and nothing yielded results, Ferretpaw grew more and more restless. She began to ask more questions about what gems did what and how they worked, hoping that something inside her would click.
If Firegem couldn't heal her mother, she would. She wanted to be able to heal her. And in a perfect world, she would have been able to heal her brother too, despite how swiftly the sickness stole him. She grew obsessed with the idea, and attempted to study the art of healing as much as she could without raising suspicion. She would be able to heal her mother, and she would be able to heal everyone else who got sick too. Nobody would ever have to live through losing someone they loved due to something they couldn't control again. She would try everything, do things that no one else did. She was lucky to be a tunneler, and had been taught how to excavate and handle gemstones properly. Though cats always said she was more suited to fixing tunnels, with her strong body and quick thinking. Regardless of her passion and ability, Ferretpaw didn't have enough time. Her mother died not long before her children were old enough to be warriors.
The family was broken for moons. Cousins, grandparents, clanmates- everyone grieved. She had been such a warm, leading force in the family and the clan. Always there to share a smile, lend a paw. And now she was... gone. She now lived alongside her son inside the gems. Instead of giving up, Ferretpaw let her grief fuel her. What was once a spark was now a flame, soon into a full blown forest fire. She would succeed where others had failed. She meditated more and more and thought up gemstone and herb combinations that she swore might have worked. Though this did mean she neglected some of the duties she was expected to perform as a tunneler, she could pass meditation and gemstone finding as part of her job. Nobody was told what she was really doing, and she was good at hiding it. And as her ideas about medicines grew, her anger simmered into a drug stronger and more addictive than anything she could dream up.
Ferretpaw was still an apprentice when her sister earned her name, the first of them all to get it. She was doing well, and had a mate candidate as well as a good standing. Though they were taking it slow, as condoned by the clan and the rest of their family. Sleet- had always been the sensible one, she was the one who put her head down and got the work done. She had grown more reclusive since her mother's death, but Ferretpaw knew she was still very happy with life. But on yet another disastrous day, her sister's broken body was dragged into camp by a fellow guard. She was alive, but barely. Sleet- had heard the sounds of a cave-in and warned the rest of her patrol. She and a hunter weren't able to get out in time, and she threw her body upon theirs to protect them. It had saved their life, but cost Sleet- hers. The pair was dug up quickly by the rest of the patrol, but the damage had already been done. Ferretpaw watched her sister's eyes close one last time and the breath still in her chest. She had frozen... she had never thought about how to treat injuries before.
Ferretpaw has long since earned her warrior name, Ferretface alongside her brother Nightbreeze. Their father grew more distant from the family, not just them, and on the worst of days didn't leave his nest. He, unlike his children, had never fully recovered from his partner's death. And the death of another child only drove him further into grief. Ferretface continued her experiments in secret, until her brother stumbled upon her stash of gems and various plants and questioned her. She confided in him, knowing that he would think she was stupid for thinking she could do better than what had already been done in healing. She couldn't lie straight to someone's face like that, that wasn't her. And as her brother, he would still love her. But to her surprise he offered his support and even said he could help her sometimes, if she ever needed it. Ferretface had never seen her brother as more than a bit of an annoying and odd but lovable family member, but now she saw him in a whole new light. They were the last ones left... they had to make their relationship count. He respected her, and her ideas. So she respected his in turn.
Recently, Ferretface's old friend Spottedglow challenged her father to the position of leader. The point molly had almost forgotten that it would be one of them. She could never not view them in the way she had when they were all kits. Young, impressionable, naïve. She had never seen them as ever being able to challenge their father. And especially not so soon, they were all still young. Perhaps the moons spent looking for new ways to cure and fix made her feel younger than her peers. She supposed they were all grown up now... Ferretface wouldn't have betted on Spottedglow as the one to become leader. But she was obviously good enough, and bested Firegem in skill. Ferretface just hopes that she'll do a better job than her father did. Only time will tell...
