Myrtleleaf stretched once more, belly full and content. It was always nice to have something to eat first thing in the morning. The dawn patrol had come back with some prey, and there had been some left over from last night. She had happily eaten some of the cold prey after making sure that the queens and kits and elders and everyone else who was up would get some. Cats were getting pretty independent and going off on patrols when they wished with who they wished, and she was fine with that. As long as cats still got their hunting and marking done, she was happy. I'm happy to have a few moments of peace in the morning... such is not the normal life of a leader. She rolled back up and checked over her fur once more, having groomed it straight when she got up it had a habit of getting all messed up again by the time she was ready to face the clan. Luckily, it was well behaved today. The leader stood, and she knew a few eyes fell upon her at that. She looked around with a smile and met the eyes of a few cats, giving them a not before heading towards the stream in the center of camp. She hopped onto one of the rocks, a smile materializing at the slickness of the stone under her paws. Wet rocks always reminded her of her wedding day... it was the best thing to associate with wet rocks, wasn't it. "Good morning to those who haven't departed camp yet!" She meowed from her position, letting her voice ring out and watching heads turn. "I will be leading a patrol out to check on the borders and to see what extent the forest fire has gone outside of them. If you wish to join me on this adventure, please do. Be prepared for a lot of walking. Otherwise, go about your day as usual. Speak to your Family Leader if you require guidance during my absence. We be returning at sundown, at the latest." The calico finished, dipping her head at the surrounding cats. Many of them dipped their heads back. She leapt back onto dry land with a clumsy thud, almost slipping. Whoops. Hopefully no one saw that. Her clan was used to her not addressing them from high up, she wanted to be on the same level as them. Of course, for any big important announcements and ceremonies she always started up at her den. It was tradition, and she saw no reason to break it. The molly padded calmly over to the tunnel at the entrance of camp, and waited for cats to come to her. I wonder who would like to join me. A whole day together, it'll be a treat. And not for them, for me, really. I love learning more about my clanmates. And there's always more to learn, I learn something new every day.Tags: @open Notes: looking for 2-3 other cats to join miss myrtle! preferably warriors, or older apprentices up to traveling a bit of a ways |

Teapad flexed her paw, finding herself in an unusually foul mood. She had been going about her day as usual, chatting to a few other warriors and casually wandering the camp, seeing what duties there were and how she could aid her clan. When nothing was given to her she changed direction and wandered toward the nursery, curious if any of the kits were being extra ambitious that morning and had decided to wake up before their mothers. To her dismay all was quiet, save a few snores. The tortoiseshell sighed, licking her fur in embarrassment when another warrior passed her and nodded. She needed something to do. Anything, really. She would even clean out the dirt-place. Myrtleleaf's call to the clan changed her focus, making her sigh in releif. The chunky leader announced a patrol, requesting warriors to join and Teapad was the first to squirm through the crowd and wiggle around her leader. "I'll chip in," she said, relieved and smiling. | T awnyshine’s head turned to listen as Myrtleleaf greeted the clan. A faint smile found its way onto her face as her leader nodded and began to call out. Tawnyshine shifted, moving into a more comfortable position, now facing the center of the camp. Perched upon the slick stone, the mottled she-cat announced that she would be taking a patrol out to assess the damage of the recent wildfire. Tawnyshine flicked an ear, interest rising. Perhaps a walk would do some good for her recently restless paws. At the very least, maybe they could find some salvageable herbs along the way. Upon hearing the words, the chattering around her stilled for a moment. Most cats were still feeling uneasy from the blaze, despite the fact that they’d been blessed by The Goddess. Just the proximity of the fire to the camp was not a feeling so easily forgotten and it was easy to see the clan was still a bit skittish from it. Tawnyshine figured it would only be a matter of time before the herbs returned along, but there was reason for the concern now. Leafbare was approaching soon and no cat wanted to imagine the bitter season without a steady supply of herbs. The dappled molly patiently waited until Myrtleleaf finished her announcement and had leapt from her stone before she rose. Her green irises watched as the leader padded across camp to the entrance, a clear decision having been made. She dipped into a graceful stretch, fluffed out her fur a bit for appearances, and trotted over towards her leader. However, it appeared she was not the only cat who decided to heed Myrtleleaf’s call. Standing already before the calico, was Teapad. Tawnyshine wasn’t particularly acquainted with her fellow warrior, but she knew vaguely of the tortoiseshell. No doubt, Teapad was certainly a well-liked member of the Pine family, but Tawnyshine was yet to have any real interactions with her. She knew enough to dip her head in respect to both parties, as she approached, before offering an amicable chirp; “Got room for one more ?”Tawnyshine Owl, autumn <3 hope yall don't mind me tossing her in! |

ivynose...
The taste of the vole lingered in her mouth as she re-entered the camp, full from her meal from earlier as she carried a thin squirrel towards the prey pile. Golden eyes flicked curiously over to the felines gathered in the camp, some sharing tongues and some enjoying a good sun bath. Depositing her cargo into the pile, her eyes dragged curiously (wistfully]) over the nursery as a kit rolled out from the entrance with excited squeaks. Ears twitching and whiskers quivering, she paused for a moment to stretch out. Enjoying the pull of her muscles and the heady feeling it produced, she released a soft exhale. A quiet purr rumbled through her throat, tail flicking upwards as she spotted Myrtleleaf stand and give a smile to the group around her. Tracking the she-cat's movements with a curious gaze, Ivynose tilted her head as the leader made her announcement.
Well.. it wouldn't hurt to go back out. This time, it seemed it was more of an exploration thing that was going on. Marking borders, checking where the wildfire had sprung, and all that jazz. Typical day, really. As the molly padded over to the entrance, Ivynose stretched out once more and licked down a few stray hairs on her side before bounding over to the leader with a small smile. "Good morning, Myrtleleaf," she greeted in a throaty purr, eyes trailing to the others that joined the chunky leader in front of the entrance. "Teapad, Tawnyshine," she added to her greeting, dipping her head at them. "I'll tag along." Flicking her tail high up in the air, it quivered slightly as some excitement thrummed through her. Ivynose always enjoyed going out into the forest away from camp.
This was no different. Inhaling the smell of sheer greenery, a small pang shot through her when she remembered that seeing the charred portion of the forest would pain them for moons to come. She bit her tongue thinking about it, unwilling to share her reservations that maybe the earth wouldn't heal.

Myrtleleaf stood in the mouth of the tunnel, and a few moments passed where cats seemed to go about their lives and no one wanted to join her. Then she spotted a cat making a beeline for the entrance, and shot her a smile. The dilute tortoiseshell smiled back, and the van knew she had found someone to go along with her. "Teapad! It's nice to see you again." The molly was older than her, already a warrior when Myrtleleaf became an apprentice. She remembered looking up to the other molly quite a bit, as she did with everyone during her apprentice days. It was just the ways of being a young cat with a passion for learning. Everyone was a teacher. Despite her age, Teapad was as spry as the young warrior she always remembered her to be. By the ancestors, I wish I could have that much pep in my step. I suppose it's the after effect of having all these cats to take care of. I'm like a mother with a litter of kits- but the litter is the whole clan. That's a poor analogy, imagine fitting all my clanmates into my belly! Well. She had to push aside the thoughts of mothering and kittens before her throughs spiraled into a sadder place. Conveniently enough, two more mollies padded up and introduced themselves. "Of course Tawnyshine! It's nice to see you looking so good, dear." She purred at the calico. She had been apprenticed around the same time as Icemask, and the pair were good friends. Myrtleleaf herself had taken them out to train together on more than one occasion. She was one of the only other cats that she saw Icemask enjoyed the company of, and she was very grateful for that. "Good morning to you too, Ivynose." Another rather young warrior, but not one that she knew as well as the previous one. She hoped that being on a patrol together would change that. Patrolling is not just to strengthen the borders, it is to strengthen the bonds between clanmates and turn them into friends. "Alright you three, let's head out." She gave her tail a flick, raising it above her head like a flag. Then she turned and strode out into the tunnel, looking at the shadows cast by the leaves with smile. She always loved the patterns they made, and in the height of summer the shadows were plenty due to the lush vines. The tunnel would touch the ears of taller cats, but Myrtleleaf was stout enough that she passed through without heed. Well, until they got to the end. It was single-file there. The patrol emerged one by one into the forest, leaf litter that had been swept away in camp blanketed the ground here. At least, for a little while outside of camp. As soon as you looped back around and crossed the stream, the forest was blanketed with ash. Myrtleleaf was determined not to walk in silence, all patrols could be livened up by a bit of chatter. There is a time for quiet, and a time for talking. Now's the time for talking! We've gotta break the ice a bit, Teapad knows she doesn't need to be formal around me but I'm not sure about Tawnyshine and Ivynose. "How have you all been doing? Any news? There's no need to be quiet until we get out near the border, and we might as well loosen up and get to know each other a bit more on the way." She looked back over her shoulder and gave all the mollies an encouraging smile. Cats who know one another work best together! This patrol shouldn't be all bad news, hopefully a friendship or two or three will come out of it if nothing else.
