Lurking on the edges of camp were Nightwalkers in various shades of black, blue and brown, but from afar they all looked like shadowy figures. They covered the camp on all sides and chatted like innocent bystanders. In the middle stood one bright red target. Applewater's hints of black did nothing to hide her from the gazes of the Nightwalkers. Applewater knew they still weren't used to seeing a cat like her standing to attention in the middle of camp. Gazing around camp, Applewater was searching for her own target.
She spotted one. A strong looking Nightwalker walking out of the Nightwalker den. Underneath dense black tabby stripes, Applewater could see a hint of a brown though it was hard to make out. What really caught her attention was a well formed body that could easily put up with countless trips across the desert.
Reaching him, she paused staring at the Nightwalker halfway in between trying to remember his name and just gawking. "... Miragewalker is it?" Looking up at him, Applewater did her best to stay composed. If she acted like the mouse she felt like, she'd only fall further in the eyes of Nightwalkers. This tom was going to be her first step in controlling the shadowy masses.
"I want you to join me on the first patrol of the night. I'd like to head to the Rodent Burrows to see if the prey has returned. Pick a couple of others to bring with us."
With a dismissive flick of her tail, Applewater left Miragewalker to find some companions. She trotted from group to group of lounging Nightwalkers. Barking orders, she sent them off on varying patrols. Some respectful cats took the initiative to walk up to her and ask for guidance, but others kept gossiping until Applewater made her way to them. It wasn't ideal to bend to their will, but Applewater was more concerned with getting things done and wasn't about to wait for them to smarten up and ask for jobs.
