Negative Traits: Remorseless | Apathetic | Controlling
Full Trait Description: All throughout his kithood Antlerpaw was raised to hold truth above everything, honesty from himself and others was not only wanted but expected. His father, River-; raised him to watch for signs of lies, the flick of an ear or the shift of the eyes were easy signals that typically meant someone wasn’t being wholly honest. Antlerpaw has become rather intuitive and attentive to details in speech and behavior thanks to this couching. His dedication to the craft of uncovering deceit is borderline zealous and means Antlerpaw can be relatively remorseless in his pursuit of the truth; feelings and emotions only get in the way of clarity. That being said; he is still a young tom and has much to learn about controlling his emotional responses to certain situations, especially those that pertain to his family affairs.
It is important for Antlerpaw to remain apathetic when he can; a clear mind is needed to make judgement calls and he has already expressed talents of cunning behavior; i.e. using his intellect to uncover evidence and catch others in their own web of lies. He is a brave cat by nature and can be forward with his wants and needs; though this has lead to a controlling attitude and behavior towards others as he’s grown. Antlerpaw isn’t completely heartless in his judgement of others; he believes in giving others a fair chance both at proving their innocence and even their redemption.

The Past
Not all love stories have happy endings. For Antlerpaw’s parents they thought their lives were woven together by the Goddess herself but inter-family relationships have the tendency to fall apart when one believes in truth, and the other; lies. Anterpaw’s father grew up in the Birch Family, his family roots extended deep into the clans history and had always been truth seekers through-and-through. His mother; a Pine Family member since birth; had a charismatic quality to her kind and generous ways that led to Anterpaw’s father falling for the molly while the two were still apprentices. Early into their warriorhood his father began his courtship, giving the love of his life flowers and feathers to win over her affection. Anterpaw’s mother was flattered by the gesture and the two began their relationship on good terms.
12 moons went by and the two learned much about one another. She was a free spirit, drawn to whatever flying fancy crosses her mind and he, the line that tethered her. Marigold-‘s kindness outshined her wisdom and though she valued the passage of faith onto the next generation, her flighty tendencies made her a less than ideal teacher of tradition. River- never minded her quirkiness, he was a solid warrior who’s upbringing had prepared him for being tough and analytical though Marigold- was always the arrow that broke through his tough exterior.
Marigold- did have love for River-, though it seemed for her the kind one would have for a close friend or family member more than a true lover. To most their relationship seemed perfect and appeared to be the two way street River- thought it was. But her love was never the depths to which he dove for her; even still his dedication to their relationship made her stay, the security in his arms enough to request changing families. River- was overjoyed by her decision and Marigold-s new found role as a Birch Family member solidified their matehood.
They tried for kits; oh how they tried. Now in their early 30 moons, River- and Marigold- still remained kitless much to the frustration of River-. He wanted kits, to pass on his legacy, pass on the family tradition. Marigold- was happy either way but seeing her mates frustration and sorrow drove her to seek alternative companionship. She was a free spirit, and the flirtatious glow of others she could not ignore. Being around River- made her sad, like she was failing him and his energy always pulled her down. So she began spending more time away from her mate and instead with another who flattered and lifted her up. Not long after Marigold- became pregnant. The timing seemed a bit off to River- but of course he would not suspect his mate of foul play. She had changed families for him; they were as solid as the Willow Groves.
When the kits were born there was a celebration; Antlerkit, Magpiekit, and Emberkit’s long awaited arrival had finally come to pass. They all resembled their mother in some way who’s calico pelt shinned in all its forms with their fur color and so they were a happy, healthy family. Marigold- thought it best not to tell River- he was likely not the father; he’d gotten what he wanted, three kits to share his knowledge and legacy with and so she remained silent.
As the kits grew the Willow Family male who had sired them and knew of his role longed to be a part of their lives, much to Marigold-s dismay. She begged him to stay away, her family was happy; but he was drawn to them and felt being with them was more important than who’s lives he would destroy should he report his role in their creation. He was confident; cocky in his belief that things would work out for the better. So one day as mother and kits explored camp; now at the ripe age of 4 moons he sat with them and told them he was their father. Antlerkit was confused; River- was his father and so he laughed off this silly warrior thinking it was a game. But Marigold-s reaction was fire and she lashed out at the tom. The scene brought curious onlookers who were unaware of the reason behind the fight.
With little investigation the Birch Family quickly discovered the truth. River- watched in horror as his world crashed around him, the mate he thought honest and loyal was neither, and the kits he thought his belonged to another. The Birch Family did not treat Marigold- kindly; their belief in truth had no room for deceivers like her. She withheld the judgement and hostility until her kits were 6 moons, her love for them making her stay until their apprenticeships. She returned to her original roots; the Pine Family though her kits remained Birch due to tradition.
Through it all Antlerkit was shocked, how could his mother do this to him? To his family? When he became an apprentice her wrote off his mother completely. He longed to be like his father; like River- and he would and will do anything to live up to the legacy of the tom. He has spent all his apprenticeship thus far learning how to be the best Birch Family member he can be.
