Now I know your routine,
I was in love with your mystery
The orange and white tom breathed in the scents and wind of the forest, leaves and sticks crackling under his large paws. He didn't particularly like being this far out into the territory. Everything felt much quieter, and it felt like he was always being watched. It made the fur on his back stand up, if he were to be there alone. However, he wasn't this time around. He had Hawkpaw with him, so he felt slightly more comfortable with it. The smaller tom hummed as they walked side by side, few inches apart. He didn't want them to wander too far apart from each other, because if either of them were to get lost, he wasn't sure if it would turn out good at all. They were both way too inexperienced, and Foxpaw was definitely scared of being alone anyway, though he would never admit it. When they finally got to their destination, Foxpaw smirked. He could see the inside of the den, the shadows covering the entirety of it. It definitely looked scary. He couldn't tell if anything could be lurking inside, but he had heard stories of it. "You first, Hawkpaw. I bet you wont." He didn't want to go first. If he did, his fear would be obvious. Yes, he was scared of the dark. "Unless you're scared."

Hawkpaw had always been a male of few words but many actions, and despite his supple age, he liked to think he'd taken his bite out of life already; done his part, climbed the tallest mountains, swam across the deepest waters. There was a lot he liked to think, but that didn't make it the truth. "You first, Hawkpaw. I bet you won't." Foxpaw, well, he liked to talk, and that was the truth. Hawkpaw knew it from the first day he'd laid eyes on him. He also knew that they'd become best friends. "Oh, and what makes you think that?" Hawkpaw was confident and spunky, Foxpaw was cheerful and willing to do anything. "Unless you're scared." Well, almost anything. That was alright though because whatever Fox was too frightened to do, Hawk wasn't, and just like clockwork, here they were, standing side-by-side about to do something stupid. Together. As best friends. "Scared? I thought you knew me better than that, Fox." He did.
Hawkpaw's gaze didn't falter from the darkness that swam from the den before them, and although he spoke jokingly to Fox, he could hear the fear in his voice... And it made him chuckle. This was a challenge, another opportunity to prove himself worthy of something, and another moment to use Fox's' mind against him. He loved Fox, he did, he just loved his reactions a bit more. "Watch this!" Running forward did he charge onward into the abyss - a rattle of leaves, the sounds of paws scurrying across the floor, and then -- "AH! F-FOX! H-HELP!" Hawkpaw cried out in fake terror, his little body wallowing on the ground in attempts to make it seem like he were in pain. He wondered if he'd fall for it... He had before, but was this joke too old? He'd have to amp it up a bit. "I-I HURT MY LEG! I-I CAN'T MOVE! P-PLEASE!" Now all he had to do was wait.

"Scared? I thought you knew me better than that, Fox." Foxpaw smirked. Of course he knew him better than that, that's what he loved about him. He seemed to have no fear in the world, and Foxpaw liked to think he didn't either, even though that wasn't true. "Watch this!" Foxpaw watched in wonder as his friend charged into the den, no hesitation at all. Foxpaw wished he could be like that. "AH! F-FOX! H-HELP!" Foxpaw smiled, knowing it was just one of his jokes. He had pulled it on him before. "Pfff, Hawkpaw, I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid! Not falling for it this time!" Foxpaws smile dropped down however, when it started to seem like less of a joke. "I-I HURT MY LEG! I-I CAN'T MOVE! P-PLEASE!"
Foxpaw charged into the abyss, not worrying about anything except his best friend. He couldn't see in there, but he didn't care. If something was wrong, he would be right there fighting to help him, no matter the cost. He would die for him. "DON'T WORRY BUDDY!" Foxpaw took hold of what he thought was his scruff, attempting to pull him outside of the den, but something was wrong. He couldn't move him. Oh no he's too heavy. "Damnit, if you didn't eat so much it would be a lot easier to save you-" Foxpaw could feel his mind racing. He could run back to camp to go get someone, but what if it was too late by the time he got back? He would have to think quick. Foxpaw tried lifting the other tom onto his back, but that wasn't working either. Way too heavy. Come on, he can't be that hurt. "Hawkpaw, you're gonna have to work with me before I lose my actual mind trying to get you out of here where I can look at your leg." The smaller tom slumped down, hyperventilating almost to the point of tears. "HAWKPAW!"
