The Past

Topazkit, along with his sisters Amberkit and Jasperkit, were born to loving parents. Topazkit was always a nervous and shy tom though his sisters were quite the opposite. They were rambunctious and playful. They enjoyed playing with their brother, but also enjoyed the company of other kits. Amberkit and Jasperkit tried, perhaps too hard, to get Topazkit to meet their friends though eventually they stopped trying entirely. This only pushed Topazkit into further isolating himself to the point where his mother was the only cat he could really talk to and not feel anxious. It was around this time that cats really started to notice Topazkit’s muteness though no one bothered to encourage him to change, not even his family.

When he and his sisters lost both of their parents to a tunneling accident not a moon before they were to be made pupils, the only cats that could teach him to open himself up were gone. There were queens that took over their care for a brief while, but they often disregarded Topazkit’s shyness or cut him off when he tried to speak. He closed himself off further, barely being able to speak to his now demanding and, sometimes cruel, sisters. Grief had changed them, made them less understanding and more angry.

By the time they were made apprentices Topazpaw and his sisters had grown far apart though they still kept up appearances as their father had taught them, but something had definitely changed between the three. This proved even more true as the three split off onto their own paths: Amberpaw a hunter pupil, Jasperpaw a guard pupil, and Topaz a tunneler pupil. Amberpaw threw herself wholeheartedly into her hunter training wanting to be as far away from the tunnels as possible, easily able to put distance between herself and her siblings without fear of being judged. Jasperpaw found a new purpose in protecting those in the tunnels in honor of her parents. She still keeps a close eye on Topazpaw, trying to mend their relationship as best as she can while she learns to be a guard in the tunnels.

Topazpaw enjoys his time learning about gems and being in the dark, quiet tunnels, but has yet to find the solace that he once found when he was still with his mother. The only thing he has left of her is the gem she’d given him as a kit, the gem he was named for: a topaz.
