Her throat felt uncomforably dry and she opened and closed her jaws a few times, shifting her tongue around.
She finally opened her eyes into the bright light of the sun.
Magpiepaw appeared to have fallen asleep at the edge of her den and was lying the in heat of the mid day.
With a grunt she rolled over and got to her paws as she moved over to a shadowy spot.
Her black fur almost felt on fire.
She shifted her tongue again, thinking about a drink or a juicy mouse to quench her thirst, as she heard her name being said, softly and from a distance.
Her ears flicked towards the sound and she soon locked eyes with her mother Marigold- who watched her from across camp.
Magpiepaw's pelt prickled uncomfortably under her mother's gaze and she quickly looked away. She did not dare looking back in fear of seeing hurt on Marigold-'s face.
Part of her longed to run to her mother, however she was held back by her desire to fit in with Birch Family. And her own siblings.
She turned her amber eyes towards the den, half expecting to see Antlerpaw or Emberpaw emerge.
No one came. The camp was empty today.
What if she just had a small chat with her mother now?
No cat would know...
She turned back around- but her mother was gone.
