Most cats would nod along and murmur "Not everyone's perfect" under their breath as he passes by. But the white lingers on his mind more than he cares to admit. It feels purposeful, too specific to be an accident. He wonders what happened in his past life that he got such a distinct marking.

The Past
Moonkit was born as one of the surviving kits of Cactus-'s litter. From a litter of five, only two survived. The surviving two kits were Moonkit as the eldest and his youngest brother, Tarantulakit. Cactus- gave birth to her little of kits in the dead of winter in a state of near starvation. She had no choice but to watch as her kits slowly wasted away at her belly. By the time the weather took a turn for the better, Moonkit and Tarantulakit were the only kits left standing.
Unfortunately, they were not the only family effected by the devastating winter. Cactus- ended up taking in several more kits and fostered them when their mothers passed away. It was difficult for Moonkit to get any personal time with his mother, but his heart swelled proudly as he watched his strong, compassionate mother take in more and more kits. Moonkit had never seen someone so brave in his short life and he wanted nothing more than to grow up to be just like his mother.
That being said, things in the Nightwalker nursery were less than peaceful. The ratio of Queens to kits was horribly skewed. Many of the Queen sacrificed their own lives to feed their kits. The remaining Queens were trying their best to raise all the kits but it was difficult. A task made no easier by a suddenly inspired Moonkit. His heart just screamed that he was meant for something more, that there was some great destiny waiting for him out there. He used to pray every night to the Gods to send him guidance. A sign that would lead him on the path to his destiny.
Eventually, thing took a turn for the better and prey became plentiful. The clan made their annual journey to the Sunshine Oasis with the gaggle of kits in tow. Moonkit liked to pretend he was the one leading them. He would bound between the paws of Sagewater and Aloewater, trying to tell them the best way to go. Sagewater was tickled pink by his efforts and would nod seriously at his every suggestion. Aloewater was not so forgiving and always snapped at the kits heels to get him to leave them alone. Moonkit would dive behind Sagewater for safety and stick his tongue out at Aloewater when Sagewater's back was turned. Served him right! What kind of warrior bullied a kit?
Well, he couldn't complain like that for long. On the eve of their arrival at Sunshine Oasis Sagewater held an impromptu ceremony and named Moonkit DuneClan's newest apprentice.
They finally reached the Sunshine Oasis in the early the next morning. While Aloewater and Sagewater started to settle the clan in, Moonpaw raced to explore. He poked his head in all the dens until - he found a den occupied by a stranger. He was a small ginger kit dead asleep. Moonpaw didn't hesitate to poke him until he woke up. He yowled his little lungs out until the rest of the clan came to find the two of them. Moonpaw and this stranger.
While the whole clan debated what to do with the stranger, Moonkit knew deep in his soul that things were going to change. The stranger - Sunkit - was named by the clan and his first reaction was to protest at being called a kit. Moonkit laughed and leaped at the chance to explain.
It was a start to a beautiful friendship. Moonpaw filled Sunpaw in on everything to do with DuneClan. A warrior crash-course! There were a few hiccups, like the fact that Sunpaw was a Daywalker and he was a Nightwalker, but Moonpaw was going to let that stand in the way of his friendship with Sunpaw! This God-blessed cat that tumbled into his life like a missing puzzle piece that just made something in his soul click. Sunpaw was worth the risk, he decided.
The two of them made a game of it. Who could scandalize the clan more. Moonpaw tried comparing their seasonal migration to birds and loudly exclaiming that Aloewater HAD to be related to cassowaries. Especially when he went blue in the face trying to scold them for their latest bit of mischief. But Sunpaw had to go and one-up him by trying to insist yes he was a nightwalker. What do you mean he couldn't blend into the night? He can! What's the matter Aloewater, going colourblind in your old age?
After several moons, the clan seemed to get sick of their trouble and promoted them to warriors. Just to get them to shut up. Little did they know, this was their biggest mistake. Without a mentor to keep him in line, Moonspirit was unstoppable. He spit in the eye of tradition and turned his back on decorum. The world was his for the taking.
