Her eyes felt heavy. The dry sand had crusted her eyes over and the bright sun left behind a pounding headache after it fell below the horizon. Despite the pain, Applewater didn't want to return to her den. It was so cold without Aloewater. It was hollow and barren. If she had a mate, she could have someone to cuddle up with and her sisters knew that. That's why they kept trying to introduce her to Daywalker toms. She wouldn't be so alone at night if she had a mate to cuddle up with. The idea was heartwarming amidst the chill of a desert night. It had been too long since Applewater felt the comfort of another body pressed up against her side. But there wasn't any time. Juggling the duties of Day leader and Night leader didn't give Applewater enough time to find a mate. She'd just have to wait for the Gods to give her guidance.
Instead of sleeping, Applewater watched the Nightwalkers slivered out of their den one by one. They crept around the sleeping bundle of Daywalkers in the middle of camp. Seeing them navigate around the perfect precision sleeping cats with made Applewater's nerves tingle. She pictured the times she slept outside with her littermates and how Nightwalkers most likely stepped over them. Their black pelts slick and pristine, shimmered like black scales under the moonlight. Their black paws barely touched the sand when they walked. Applewater had to strain her ears to hear the gentle tapping of footsteps. It was so faint, she might have seen them walking and imagined the sound.
A faint voice hissed beside her ear. A warm breath of air on her fur sent shivers down the leader's spine.
"Eek!" She yelped. Turning swiftly, Applewater faced a pitch black Nightwalker. His yellow eyes watched her move. There wasn't any emotion in his stare; just calm calculation. "Oh right patrols, um- take two warriors and go hunt for prey. Now that the storm has settled, I expect prey is recklessly searching for food to fill their bellies. We aren't the only ones who starved. I also want the trainees to stay in camp for now. Get them to keep cleaning out the sand from camp."
Applewater frowned as the tom simply nodded his head and turned away without a word. Nightwalkers seemed unaffected by Applewater's bright and sunny attitude. Applewater strived to be the light in her clanmates life. Her role was to inspire and drive the clan. Daywalkers always brightened up at Applewater's words, Nightwalkers didn't seem to care. They acted like a completely different species from Daywalkers. Daywalkers were outspoken and loud. They'd speak their mind without a second thought. Nightwalkers were more reserved and seemed to communicate without words. Even with Applewater's keen observational skills, she had a hard time getting into their heads.

Honeybee calmly slipped from her den, paws thudding on the ground quietly. She danced around the roots of her den, sneezing as sand filled her nose. The tabby slipped around her tree and aimed for the garden close by, where she was to check on her supplies. Around her a few warriors started to squirm, passing her in an effort to resume their nightly duties. Honeybee glanced up at the sky, a little glimmer of optimism in her eye as she observed the stars. The moon hung low, white as milk as it crept up on the cats. The air had already dropped from the blazing heat to a bitter cold and finally everything seemed to be peaceful. The sandstorms had ravaged the clan, covering everything in an obnoxious dust. Honeybee and the prophet were able to keep their den clean by covering the entrance and any holes with leaves, protecting their precious herb stock as much as possible from the sand but some of the other dens weren't as lucky. While the medicine cats kept their stock safe the storm disturbed much more of Honeybee's gardens. Some of the plants were able to tough out the wind, but the younger plants found it harder. The little tabby did her best to frequently tend to the herbs whenever she could brave the storm, but she wasn't able to give the garden as much attention as it needed. The state of the plants was left mostly in the God's hands, and it seemed they were merciful on the cats this season. Honeybee sniffed at a cactus here, touched her nose to a firesap there. The little plants were buried under piles of sand, meaning it would be the job of Honeybee and maybe a trainee or two to dig the plants up, dispose of any that were injured in the storm, and then replant any that they were low on. It was important to keep an eye on everything they could, especially since Honeybee imagined they would be moving to the Sunlight oasis soon, and the sandstorm meant the journey would be a little more difficult than usual. The herb tender sniffed at one of the mounds of sand where one of her aloe vera's used to be. She timidly dug at the sand with her paw, but snorted in frustration soon after. She would need more than just her own paws. Honeybee swiveled around in an effort to find someone to assist her, but instead found the Daywalker leader by herself. Applewater watched over the Nightwalkers with a careful gaze, but the tabby could tell something was on her mind. Abandoning her plants, Honeybee made her way over to the leader with a soft step. She purred a greeting, "Good night to you, Applewater." the molly said gently. Honeybee quickly took a seat next to the leader, watching her. "Fancy seeing you out here in the dark. You look tired," the tabby said. She glanced at her leader with big eyes. Air-headed as Honeybee was, she could easily spot fatigue. When someone was as exhausted as the leader must have been, their eyes would look dull. They'd appear lost in thought, even when engaging in a conversation. Their movements were slow, and they'd easily fall for any kind of manipulation. Applewater was no exception to these rules. She looked observant, but Honeybee could see her thoughts clouded with her imagination. To guess what the leader might be thinking about, Honeybee assumed it would be the two missing cats. The Nightalk leader, and the traveling medicine cat- who did turn up eventually, but dead. The image of the old medicine cat's body, lying flat on the sand, was still burned into Honeybee's memory. It reminded her of her mentor, and the image of her eyes glazed over. Honeybee shifted awkwardly, clearing her throat, "I know you must be busy, taking over so much work. I was wondering if you'd be willing to lend me an apprentice or two. I need them to help me salvage what's left of the garden. I'll take kits too, if there's any to spare," there was a hint of amusement in Honeybee's voice, "That aside, when are you going to get some rest?"captain

Shadowchaser - Dunelan - Warrior - Nightwalker - Application The sun was gone meeting the night was young. Nightwalkers were out and about as it was time for the action and work for the lot but in Shadowchaser case it just met more sleep. He loved to just lied down and be merry. It was sad no else seem understand that. He like to just take life slow and enjoy to the fullest. Ashflight was gone had she was doing her shift so their nesting post wasn't as warm as could be. Maybe I should go out at least to find some to do? A wise decision since if he didn't Ashy would dragged onto the next patrol later. The tom sighed before getting up and walked out the den. What was there do that wouldn't be so bothersome? Kit-sitting again? Or-OH? His gaze turn to the lovely bright pelts midst the darkness, Applewater and Honeybee. The Daywalker leader trying to run two side of the same and the herd tender he did know a single cell about nor cared to be honest since hard ever got sick or wounded. He move a little closer partial eavesdropping on the conversation but what it really eavesdropping if they were one of very few talking around camp. After a few long moment, Shadowchaser took the initiative walking up with a sway to his hips glance Honeybee then Applewater winking. "If I may." He interrupted not wanting to come as rude. "I know a few apprentices who might be fit for that. Their names are Blackpaw and Scorpionpaw, very well-mannered and could very useful in the long run." Shadowchaser his attention the turn to his leader. "Applewater, I am honor to meet you up close and personal. Pray tell nothing is boring you that would most unpleasant." Was running a clan truly that exhausting? Tags:captain ,autumn , Notes: I figure this would go way to explain why Honey heard of black and Scorpion please. |

they used to shout my name now they whisper it
The evening air was crisp tonight, as it always was, that same quiet stillness chilling the breeze that toyed with the ears of any who might be in its meandering way. The stars were out, but the stars were quiet, so the stars did not matter, in the end. Not tonight, at the very least. Cats rose and slept and dreamed and planned in all corners of camp, abuzz and alive with activity at the same time as being completely devoid of it. One benefit of the Nightwalkers though was perhaps their light-footedness - Daywalkers and their bubbly, boisterous natures were never quite as careful to avoid waking the Nightwalkers as Webwhisper might have liked them to be. No matter - one grows quickly used to thundering pawsteps, and the spindly tom could survive on little sleep anyway. However, the trouble with recent events was that the lack of a Nightwalker leader had left a certain threat of quiet chaos across their ranks. They were coping, for now, but one leader in a clan divided could not shoulder both sides of the scale. If there was any doubt about that, all any cat had to do was look at Applewater's face. Webwhisper wasn't sure he had ever seen eyes so lifeless still living, especially not tonight as he picked his way out of the Nightwalker den out into camp to receive and arrange the twilight's assignments. The herbalist had already engaged her in conversation, a Nightwalker tom had already swarmed her (and the manner in which he sashayed over to her nauseated Webwhisper only slightly), but she looked just about ready to drop, poor mouse. He quickened his loping stride just slightly to approach the forming group, clearing his throat with a pointed side-eye towards Shadowchaser before he let his gaze sweep around the cats present. "By Mayank's blessing," he grunted, "Applewater, for the love of the rains above, look at the state of you- I am no medicine tom, but your knees are hardly holding you upright." He gestured to her paws as if it would prove his point. "I'm sure the immediate arrangements you wish to make are necessary, but for the gods' sakes, get yourself some rest." His tail swayed behind him. Whilst his words were perhaps harsher than necessary, his tone held no malice to it; rather, a matter-of-fact kind of delivery, formal as ever. "If you need someone to take over arranging patrols, I'm sure Honeybee here wouldn't mind helping out with that, she knows the clan well enough. If I must I will lend my own services too, but this cannot continue. You can't lead both halves of the clan when you can barely keep both your eyes open."

A sweet voice hit Applewater's ears and she was met with an even sweeter face. Many would describe Honeybee as a God-send and Applewater knew of countless apprentices who had hopeless crushes on the she-cat. Like the rumors said, Applewater felt her body heal with the medicine cat's attention on her alone. " Goodnight to you as well. I suppose you walk under Mayank and Ahnay. I forget that sometimes." Applewater sighed wearily. She'd been struggling with managing both times of the day. Yet, the medicine cats had been doing that for moons. " I was tired, but by seeing a friendly face my fatigue is already washed away." Applewater rested her tail on Honeybee's back. She wasn't the type to be overly touchy with other cats, but Honeybee could make the most reserved cat give into affection." Don't fret Honeybee. I can always lend an apprentice. No need to get help from the kits. I imagine kits won't be much help anyways.” Applewater was about to respond, but a Nightwalker approached. She moved her tail away from Honeybee and held it alert. Focusing her eyes, Applewater tried to blink out the dust and grime. When her vision cleared, Applewater got a good look at a pair of swaying hips. She raised her head, watching the tom with clear interest as he spoke. " That'll do just fine. Please tell them to report to Honeybee as soon as possible." Back straight and ears perked, Applewater traced the tom up and down. He seemed well built behind his pitch black fur. " Now then, I don't think I've gotten your name before." Applewater said, remaining as neutral as possible. " If you must know though, nothing is unpleasant. I'm quite happy to spend the evening with the Nightwalkers. I regret not having done so sooner. It's quite refreshing to see something different from the day I know so well." Ears turning towards the sound of another approaching cat, Applewater was delighted to see another cat had come to join their party. And it was another Nightwalker. Joy. She dipped her head, returning his greeting. “ By Mayank’s blessing.” It took a lot of effort to not bristle at Webwhisper’s comment. Narrowing her eyes, Applewater approached his words like a challenge. Usually she would have appreciated the concern, but lately with the stress of leading the clan alone and the lack of sleep she was a bit irritable. Swishing her tail, Applewater spoke carefully. “ I appreciate the concern, but I’m quite alright. I’ll be off for the night soon, I just want to make sure everything was in order in camp before I depart. Furthermore, I think Honeybee is busy enough preparing for the journey. Perhaps you can help her with that if you’re so generously offering your time.” autumn , Aria , Izumakoto ,
