.. Seasonly Migration .. Applewater has started the trek to the Sunlight Oasis. DuneClan would have usually left earlier, but they got delayed by the sandstorm and the Nightleader's disappearance. Uncertainty hangs in the air as cats worry about traveling conditions being bad, but Applewater insists they must follow the ritual lest their Gods grow angry.
A mouthful of red fur made Applewater’s mouth feel even dryer. Setting the kit down by it’s mother, Applewater urged them into the forming line of cats. Unease swarmed in her stomach. She knew they had to travel: that was the will of the gods, but no one had made this journey before in such unknown conditions. They could get stranded in the desert without any water, or another sandstorm could sweep the entire clan away. Sand would bury any evidence of the clan existing and DuneClan would be no more. Applewater breathed slowly. Despite her worries, the risk was worth it. The clan needed to reach the Gods again, and they could only do that by following tradition.
Stopping by the traveller medicine cat, Applewater dipped her head. “Take up the rear. Without the Nightleader we need someone to make sure no one falls behind.”
She briskly turned and stalked to the front of the pack. First she passed the Nightwalkers who took up the rear. Their pelts of black and brown mixed together. Despite not having a leader, they still stuck to the back like usual. Calm and calculating, if something were to happen to the front of the group the Nightwalkers would have enough time to think and come up with a plan of action. Ahead of them were the Daywalkers. Brave and fierce, they would face the dangers of the desert head on. And at the front was Applewater; a small and short she-cat who led the clan alone.
Off in the distance, only sand awaited DuneClan. The setting sun made the sand glow orange but it’s heat was slowly fading. Soon the night would be upon them.

Tangledthorn 235 To say the world was burning would be an understatement. Tangledthorn squinted towards the horizon and thanked the gods it seemed another day had ended and a new night began. The continuous journey would at least for a time be under the guidance of the moon, the thought of Mayank watching over them felt better than the intense, glaring light of the sun.
Tangledthorn watched as Applewater walked the line and he perked his ears in curiosity as their sole leader tried to keep everyone in line. How she was doing it alone baffled the tom but he tried not to let his shock show. When would things change? Would they at all? Tangledthorn’s green gaze slid up towards the moon as he began to travel with the rest of the Nightwalkers. At least the night would be cool, the sand not so scalding for his paws or his eyes.
Tangledthorn looked forward towards the front of the group where the Daywalkers gathered. It was odd to see so many Daywalkers in one place, all of them; Daywalkers, Nightwalkers, and even the Cursed moving together as a clan. With the Nightwalkers all together Tangledthorn gravitated towards the back, his lack of interest in conversation and the need to feel like he was contributing by taking up the rear like any good Nightwalker would do pushed him to wander farther behind the rest of the squad.

Mothspark watched their leader organize the clan into a line to begin their journey to the Sunlight Oasis, something she wasn't looking forward to at all. Nonetheless the she-cat kept herself alert and attentive pushing the little nagging worries to the back of her mind. Where was the Nightleader? Did it have anything to do with the sandstorm that had delayed their departure? She had made the journey with the clan plenty of times before. Everything would be alright? Certainly. She reassured herself as her golden eyes followed the Dayleader as she passed on her way to the front of the group. Her eyes strayed trying to find the pelts of her fellow in-between clanmates, it was a little more difficult than she thought with so many pelts to pick through, but she eventually saw every one of them. She even checked for the Cursed, uncaring of whether any of her Nightwalker clanmates knew what she was doing.
Her eyes seemed to search again, as though looking for someone in particular. Her ears pricking hopefully, hoping she'd spot that familiar black pelt that only she knew, that bushy tail that she could spot a mile away, possibly those pretty golden eyes she'd looked into for years. A rough nudge knocked her out of whatever space her head had been in and her head whipped around as one of her black-furred clanmates pushed past her, sending a look at her that shot daggers through her fur. She gave the Nightwalker an apologetic smile though it faded quickly once their eyes were off her. She flicked one of her tufted ears in annoyance and trudged forward along with her clanmates deciding to distract herself with the sight of the sun setting in the distance. She'd always liked the way it lit the sand ablaze before the moon took its place.

Rubbleroot was a bit worried the migration was finally taking place. "Good good we need to get to the other camp other wise the gods will be mad." She knew why they hadn't left as planned the sandstorms were incredibly harsh this migration, then when the Nightwalker leader hadn't returned it just became worse. Was the god angry at them? She didn't know, but she was glad that Applewater was still here, and making sure that traditions were held into place. Even if this wasn't the ideal weather for the travel. It would be good to make sure to stick with all the other Daywalkers, though she was a bit concerned about turning around and not seeing the familiar dark pelts of the Nightwalkers. Rubbleroot knew that they could only survive together the Daywalkers and Nightwalkers. She just hoped they would all make it. Taking her place towards the front of the group they were moving the sun was slowly setting, this was always the worse part of the trip, traveling at night. The territory was different at night she was glad though she had good eyesight but it was still unfamiliar to her. It always made her a bit uneasy, she enjoyed laying out in camp at night taking in the moons light but with the sand blowing she wasn't sure when the sun went down she would even have the comfort of the moons light to guide them. Rubbleroot prayed to the gods, hoping for the land to settle down at night letting them pass through safely. She glanced around maybe chatting with someone would ease her mind not letting it wander, as it was doing now. Looking at the front of the group she saw Applewater's smaller form leading the way, she respected the other she-cats confidence to be at the front of the group, but to know that there was no Nightwalker leader at the back must be the worse feeling for Applewater. All Rubbleroot could do to help was make sure that she stuck together with the clan. So Rubbleroot pushed forward moving up toward the front of the group but making sure she was behind Applewater respecting the leaders authority. Tags: Duneclan Notes: Feel free to bug Rubble!

Sweetheart was concerned by everyone’s foul mood so she decide to entertain the group, she galloped and skipped all the way to the front and would point out random things like bugs and cactus to the clan as a way of entertainment, eventually the clan got bored of it so she became a little more reckless and started jumping into dead bushes and cactus and sometimes would carry the kits to some lizards to look at. Her attempts at least in her mind helped... she scampered around looking for someone to cheer up and cheer up she did at least momentarily but once the heat got to her she slowed her pace and eventually became dizzy ... she probably should have stayed calm but now she was running low on energy , but she was still 100% proud of herself!

Blackpaw A good time, not A long time I hate the sun. There, I said it. Someone had to. The nightwalker trainee thought, even though the sun was mostly down. He looked around at all of the other cats, trying to read anything from their expressions. They were mostly all quiet, and Blackpaw hated silence. It made his ears hurt, it was like a constant ringing that just wouldn't go away, unless someone was talking.
"Hnnng," He groaned, trying to draw anyones attention toward him. He just wanted someone to talk to, even if he didn't necessarily like them. "Uughhh." The little tom groaned again, just trying to keep his body moving, and his mind focused. It felt like he had sand in his eyes, and that was making him even more unmotivated. "I'm not usually one to complain, but everything hurts. My eyes are burning, my head is throbbing, and no one even wants to walk by me. I call shenanigans. It's not fair!"

For Cricketpaw, joining the migration had been a close-run thing. He'd been out in the desert all day--as always--and it had been tiredness and empty paws and the simple fact that he he'd had enough that had seen him dare to creep in at dusk. He'd been hoping to slip in under the radar and thus snatch a little extra sleep, but instead he'd come to a clan on the move: a sight to make any young heart skip a beat. At first he'd not grasped what was happening, and he'd frozen blankly on the edges of the abandoned camp until sense and the departing tails spurred him to move. Only once he'd hurried back into Duneclan's midst had he grasped what was happening, memory waving mutters of migration before his baffled mind, and only then had he fully understood how close he had come to being left behind.
Just a little later, and the camp might have been empty, leaving nothing but temporary tracks to guide him back to the fold. Just a little later, and he might have been lost once and for all...
The young tom brooded on it as he made his trudging paws follow the mass. He knew he was just one more dumb trainee, but he couldn't help but wonder why Nettle- had apparently let them all leave. She'd known he was in the desert, after all, so why hadn't she held them up; why hadn't she bid them wait for him, or at least hung back in search of his absent form? What had he done to justify this greatest punishment of them all? Cricketpaw wracked his brain as he walked, running over the previous days in a bid to pull the answer from their ceaseless blur. Maybe--
'Uughhh--'
Cricketpaw's ears twitched as the groan crashed across his thoughts, driving the shadow of his answer away. It was enough to draw a low growl into his throat and a sharp look to a nearby frame, and for a moment he eyed the other tom - irritation glittering in his gaze. It was another apprentice; a white spot, and one who moaned of solitude as if that was a real reason to complain.
"Maybe someone would walk with you if you didn't whine like a spoilt kit," he hissed under his breath, in no mood to deal with a lazy sinner's frame.

Tangledthorn 238 Tangledthorn trudged along, his steps heavy and slow as he edged farther and farther back from the main group. He was careful to not get in the way of others and he made eye contact with those that cared to acknowledge his presence. There was a moments pause where Mothspark, a cat he knew more from his youth than warriorhood; had blocked the flow of cats for a second but the instance was quickly swamped by the bouncing hyperness of Blackpaw.
Tangledthorn continued his steady pace but watched as the apprentice complained out of boredom. How the young tom had such energy after a long day of nothing but walking baffled the warrior. He felt tired, anxious, and ready for a break from the monotony of travel. Tangledthorn wondered for a moment if he’d acted like that in his youth and for a second was lost in his memories, trying to remember this walk but through the eyes of a Trainee. Back then he’d walked by his parents side; his sister Pantherfoot off with her friend and leaving him to soak up their attention.
Tangledthorn sensed the general mood of those around him as bitter and bored. He was inclined to feel the same though he truly was trying to ignore the pain in his feet and soreness in his neck from constantly being on the lookout for danger. He was ready to be in a home again.

A small, lonely part of Mothspark wanted nothing more than to walk with Pantherfoot again like they used to on these long journeys. It helped her feel less alone, less like the outcast she knew she was at times. She trailed a little farther back, trying to think of ways to not be alone with her thoughts and thinking of ways that things could be normal again. She figured no one would be paying attention to her nor see that the smile had slipped off her face for once. One thought dominated her mind, dominated over her thirst or her hunger: she missed Pantherfoot. She spotted Tangledthorn not too far away, sticking to the back of the group as well, but she didn't feel right coming to him for conversation and it seemed as though the tom wanted peace more than anything being at the back of the group. A complaining trainee farther in front of her made her chuckle a bit under her breath, remembering how she and Pantherfoot used to stick to each other like glue during migrations like this. Deciding to be bold she pushed forwards a little more until she was close enough to the black-furred trainee, finding that she recognized him. "I'll walk by you if you like, Blackpaw," she mewed to the young tom, fully prepared for her suggestion to be shot down by the younger cat.
Geckopaw purposefully walked with a slower gait, as far behind the Nightwalkers as he could get. He didn't want to see his parents or his siblings happily chatting away among the Nightwalker group eventhough it seemed as though no one was really happy about the journey ahead. Despite never being assigned Nightwalker status he much rather enjoyed the company of the moon than the sun: the sand wasn't hot against his paws under the cover of night nor was it blinding like it was now as the sun set. A part of him was annoyed that he'd had to leave behind the meager selection of herbs he'd gathered, though there wasn't much he could've taken with him that wasn't already dried up and useless. He let out a huff through his nose and paused to glance back as if to make sure all the Cursed were keeping up well. While he wasn't a medicine cat nor was he solely responsible for his fellow Cursed's health it would weigh heavily on his heart if they perished somehow during the journey.

Scorpion never hated the sun more then right then, it was so...bright? This is why he was a Nightwalker, or well..he was glad he was one anyway. Still he wished he could sleep and then travel when it was dark, it'd give his damn eyes a rest. Now all he could do was squint and bear through it. He frowned, having to bite his own tongue from groaning loudly at the displeasure, but it seemed others weren't as quiet. Someone, was groaning very loudly. Scorpionpaw peaked his head over the other Nightwalkers and recognized Blackpaw. He smirked and rolled his eyes at how dramatic the tom was. "I'm not usually one to complain, but everything hurts. My eyes are burning, my head is throbbing, and no one even wants to walk by me. I call shenanigans. It's not fair!" Scorpion didn't need to be told twice, as he started weaving through the other cats to get to his friend, but was beaten by Mothspark. I'll walk by you if you like, Blackpaw," Something about it sent a flash of annoyance and, was that jealousy? Through Scorpionpaw. He shouldered the rest of the way through, coming up on Blackpaw's other side. Once he did get there he felt his mouth go dry. 'be cool, be cool' He gave the tom a smirk and bumped him playfully. "I can, walk with you as well" he meowed coolly, praying Blackpaw didn't hear how fast his heart was pounding. Tags: lyca, Fen,

Blackpaw A good time, not a long time "Maybe someone would walk with you if you didn't whine like a spoilt kit," Blackpaws jaw dropped, he didn't know if he was supposed to hear that or not, but either way, he did. He tried to come up with a witty insult then and there, but could find none. "Maybe we should have just left you behind so you wouldn't slow us down anymore than you already are." He knew it was petty, but he was a petty cat. He would say things sometimes just to hurt feelings. He knew it was wrong. Blackpaw now felt a presence beside him, a familiar one at that. "I'll walk by you if you like, Blackpaw," Blackpaw smiled, and nodded. "I would like that very much, Mothspark! It's always nice to have some company, and I would never say no to yours."Blackpaw grinned as he felt another presence bump into him, another familiar one. "I can, walk with you as well" Blackpaw bumped back into him, purring playfully. "I would love that, I couldn't say no to that either. Plus, I couldn't ask any two other cats to carry me all the way there when my legs inevitably give out." He joked. He found himself really smiling for the first time this whole journey. lyca jinxy Hati

It hadn’t been meant for other ears, for he was no more in the mood for confrontation than he was for pointless whining, but he felt vaguely better for having given voice to the thought. And really, where was the harm? It was no more than the truth, and perhaps if someone would tell the little fool how he sounded he would think twice about what he let slip from his maw. Perhaps if someone told him to grow up— ‘Maybe we should have just left you behind—'Cricketpaw faltered for just a moment as the words snagged in his ears, very obviously meant for him, and very obviously meant to be heard. For a second time the Nightwalker trainee had disrupted his thoughts, and for a second time he reacted – but this time he gave a much starker response. This time he bristled from ears to tail, the very fact he had nearly been left behind ensuring that a nerve was struck, and this time he twisted to the Nightwalker as if to launch into an attack. A growl rumbled in his throat in the same moment, and for a second he half-forgot where he was. “Speak for yourself, you little—!”‘I’ll walk by you if you like, Blackpaw.’The warrior’s sudden appearance neatly cut him off, and Cricketpaw bit back the rest of his snarl – half-choking on the words and on his abruptly silenced growl. That the she-cat’s attention seemed to be solely on the black-furred trainee hardly mattered, for her mere presence was enough to recall him to the circumstances: to remind him that there were warriors walking on every side, and that this was no time for a confrontation besides. They were meant to migrating—and if anything could land him in yet more trouble it would be making himself the source of a stupid fight. He didn’t need that kind of trouble: he didn’t need to give the warriors more reasons to fix him with their ire. Tags: Fen, lyca,

Rubbleroot seemed to catch the leader in a daze. She seemed almost surprised to have someone talking to her. But maybe that was because she was worried and tired. They had never made this trek before without the Nightwalker Leader who would usually take over here soon once the sun went down. It was always interesting to walk the desert at night the Daywalker pupils if they hadn't worn themselves out too much would probably be in awe at the difference between night and day. It always made Rubbleroot appreciate the sunshine. Though it was nice to walk in the moonlight if they would be receiving any tonight. Applewater finally turned her gaze and noticed it was Rubbleroot. She gave the leader a soft smile they had been den mates since kits, being around the same age. Often time they were confused for one another plus Honeybee now who would be at the back of group. It was kind of awkward when she was mistaken as either one of them because well she was just a plain ole warrior, nothing special but the other two played very imporant roles in the clan and Rubbleroot respected them very much. Applewater was wise to not trust the wind god. Rubbleroot was glad to hear though that the Sun and Moon god were glad they were back but that wind god was a mystery. Always unpredictable. Rubbleroot looked down at her paws in thought for a moment. "I am glad to hear that." She paused for a moment and added "Its wise to be cautious of the wind god though, let's just hope we are able to seek shelter before then." Rubbleroot looked behind her and said, "I never get used to seeing the clan move like this even though I have had many travels in my lifetime. Though at least I know better now to save my energy." She chuckled as she watched the pupils running through the sand. Tags: captain for Applewater Notes: eh not my best but rubble for ya

Mothspark seemed to frown a bit at Blackpaw’s outburst, having not been close enough to hear what had upset the small apprentice in the first place. One of her ears flicked as her golden eyes seemed to acknowledge the light-furred apprentice a little ways away from them, seemingly the source of the black apprentice’s anger. She didn’t recognize the trainee considering she wasn’t all that familiar with many Daywalkers. She pretended not to notice the brief flash of retaliation she saw in the Daywalker trainee’s eyes, in his body language, and instead focused on the smile that played across Blackpaw’s features as he voiced that he was more than happy to have her company. Another Nightwalker trainee with a very pretty black-smoke pelt came up on Blackpaw’s other side, bumping him playfully as he announced that he’d be keeping them company as well. She recognized the other apprentice as Scorpionpaw. She thought she saw something in the young tom’s gaze, something in the way that he smiled, his body language.
It reminded her of herself… It reminded her of Pantherfoot.
For a moment her expression betrayed something that she’d been burying for a long while, wistful and longing. She shoved it down with a smile, instead focusing on Blackpaw’s comment. “Hmm,” she hummed, a hint of a purr in her voice. “I dunno if I’d be able to carry you all the way there.”

Applewater trudged on, ignoring the playful apprentices expanding their energy too fast. This was going to be a long and tough trek. Soon the apprentices would be realizing their mistake and regretting being so active. Applewater wasn’t going to teach them. The only way to get them to mature was to have them suffer the consequences. Aloewater and Sagewater did it for Applewater and her siblings. And the leaders before the two toms did the same.
Sand snuck in between Applewater’s paws as she walked. It formed an uneven ground under her feet that made each step take more energy. Pressing down into sand and pulling up again was a task ingrained in her head, but that didn’t mean it was any less tiring.
“Hmm?” Applewater said in a daze. She looked up to see Rubbleroot walking a few pawsteps behind her on the right. “Oh Rubbleroot.” Rubbleroot was one of the many ruddy cats in the clan. With markings eerily similar to Applewater and Honeybee it wasn’t uncommon for cats to mistake the three of them for each other. “I believe Ahnay and Mayank will be kind to us now that we’re back on track with our routines.” The belief in tradition was what kept Applewater sane with all the stress placed on top of her. But even that was starting to wane. “Though you can never be sure with the Wind god. They are known to be unpredictable. Even if the other gods are pleased, the wind god may sweep us all away on a whim.”

I've decided a wind god is a thing now c:
